Question 1

What does liposuction treat?

Accepted Answer

Liposuction removes localized fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise. It can treat the abdomen, thighs, arms, flanks, neck, and chin. In the face and neck area it reduces the appearance of a double chin and improves the definition of the jawline.

Question 2

Is liposuction a weight loss procedure?

Accepted Answer

No. Liposuction is a body contouring procedure, not a weight loss treatment. It is designed for patients who are at or near their ideal weight but have specific areas of stubborn fat that do not respond to diet and exercise.

Question 3

Who is the ideal candidate for liposuction?

Accepted Answer

Ideal candidates are patients at a stable weight with localized fat deposits resistant to diet and exercise, and who have firm, elastic skin. Good skin elasticity is important to minimize the risk of loose or sagging skin after fat removal.

Question 4

What happens if my skin is not firm enough for liposuction alone?

Accepted Answer

If the skin lacks the elasticity to retract naturally after fat removal, liposuction alone may leave loose or uneven skin. In these cases, additional skin tightening procedures such as a tummy tuck, arm lift, thigh lift, or neck lift may be recommended alongside liposuction for the best result.

Question 5

What is the recovery time after liposuction?

Accepted Answer

Most patients return to light activities within 1 to 2 weeks. A compression garment is worn for several weeks to support healing and optimize contouring results. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for 4 to 6 weeks. Final results are visible within 3 to 6 months as swelling fully resolves.
